Conversation regarding what the future holds for Human Resource Development professionals, specifically in the function of training design.
I think this article is creative and at some points has an amusing tone to it, yet, to an extent, portrays a dauntingly accurate future. Hansen considers the design phase of the ADDIE process and challenges readers to consider the effects of this on the field of HRD. Between the slight, moderate, and extreme scenarios Hansen has created, I believe he has defined some of the major struggles that changes in technology, learning environments, and the economy will create. The study that was made on U.S. and New Zealand nurses helped to assess the level of employee commitment toward their organizations (hospitals). The nurses from both countries were compared against each other mainly in terms of commitment to their organizations. The training development team created a training program that incorporates several training methods including: presentation and hands-on-methods. There are three learning theories which will be applied to this training session: adult learning theory, goal setting theory, and expectancy theory. The adult learning theory model is based on several assumptions. First, this theory states that adults have a need to know why they are learning or being training. During this training, Proctor and Gamble team leaders will be given a training orientation and overview on the morning of the first session. This in depth introduction will allow leaders to ask questions and have a clear expectation of what they will be learning and why. During role play, behavior modeling and case study, trainees will know clearly defined learning objectives and have the opportunity to reflect on each module during thirty minute review sessions each day. This article was written as a result of an interview held with one of the HR Managers at Poltavs’ky Gorno-Obogatitel’ny Kambinat (PGOK) – one of the largest iron ore producers of Ukraine. For confidentiality reasons, HR Manager at PGOK is referred to as Mr. HR Guy. This paper includes childhood memories about PGOK, family stories and research done to support some of the arguments. The authors describe andragogy, adult learning theory which focuses on individual learning experience and social capital theory which emphasizes the role of social networks where every worker participate unconsciously or purposefully.
